Lately, despite my conviction that blogging is a terrific and necessary tool to market your business online in the world of Web 2.0, I've discovered that in the real world daily grind, blogging often ends up way at the bottom of the priority list. I have a short litmus test that I try to reference whenever I get that haze of "what precise next action should now be taken" at any point in the day. It's ranked on a point system: When is something worth doing?
- 10 points - It's life-sustaining billable work!
- 10 points - It's signing new business!
- 5 points - It's concrete project planning or client communications!
- 5 points - It's procedures that will save time!
- 5 points - It's hot new technology upgrades!
- 2 points - It's new self-promotion!
- 2 points - It's an article for the blog!
- 2 points - It's social or business development!
- 1 point - It's maintaining an old relationship!
- 1 point - It's making a new relationship!
I'm thinking it may be time to revisit this list and put more impact into the blogging - especially over the holiday break when we dealt with the tremendous storm and Comcast's seeming inability to give us a stable internet connection for several weeks. Taking that time away from the blog - taking any time away for more than a week, and Google won't love me so much. Good seeding of the search engines with new content is vital for the site and the blog to continue to enjoy it's high relevance for everything real estate marketing related. I'm aware that not giving it attention at least once per week - when my competition is - will be my downfall. So, the goal now is to reevaluate, gain perspective and once again try to shift procedures to make the most of each minute of the already hectic day. <grin> Now, if only I could take my own advice and hire an assistant to help with the small stuff.... Let me know your thoughts on blogging frequency! Feel free to add your comments...
