Matt Cutts, the 'Net's resident Google Doctor of deciphering crazy rank changes has confirmed that we are in the midst of a heavy duty Google algorythm change. For the first time in over three years, our very own website ranking has veritably disappeared for all but our main homepage keywords. Our inbound links according to Google have dropped by 50% and as a result, many of our clients websites have also dropped off the map. Some dropped from the top ten at Google to below 10,000 and are slowly climbing back up - several now in the low 40's.

Matt tells us at Gadgets, Google and SEO "These days rather than having a large monolithic update, Google tends to have smaller (and more frequent) individual launches." So, this isn't going to be over anytime soon and could take up to three more weeks before things snap back to normal.

Of course, the resident SEO experts and website owners are freaking out and making posts to forums all over the 'Net, scrambling to make quick changes to their sites in the hope of garnering Googles good graces again. This is all for naught, so don't jump into action just yet. If you feel your traffic has dropped too significantly, just pop over to Google's AdWords page and sign up for some Pay Per Click advertising to tide you over. (Note: Many conspiracy theorists feel Google does this purposefully in order to generate more ad revenues.)

While the experts are calling this update "Jagger" there are many who would rather call it "Scrooge" since it happens to coincide with the upcoming holiday season when many small business folks are trying to generate their holiday income.
